Stjórnarskrárbundið trúfrelsi

Í Stjórnarskrá Bandaríkjanna segir ekkert um trú eða trúleysi forseta.  Önnur grein stjórnarskrárinnar, önnur málsgrein gerir grein fyrir því hverjir eigi rétt á að sækjast eftir kjöri forseta:  

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." 

Trípólí samningurinn frá 1797 sagði að "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims]; and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Það kemur mér ekkert sérlega á óvart að Ben Carson þekki ekki vel til grunnlaga Bandaríkjanna.  Hann er frábær læknir, en það gerir menn ekki að sérfræðingum, né hæfum til að gegna embætti forseta!
